Years ago I built a 'rotisserie' out old an old M37 frame. It worked really well for the job, with widely spaced lags on big casters.
Indeed, those flimsy rebuild things are an accident waiting to happen.

Yep on the stethoscope.
Many years ago at the Yuma Proving Ground DRMO, a very pretty M37 was sold with a description "engine rod knock".
A friend bought it, and it turned out the generator bracket was cracked, causing what really did sound like a rod ready to come out.

Funny how driving points & cap distributor equipped vehicles for over 50 years, I've never had a hard failure relative to them. They get worn, lose the dwell spec, or the condenser starts to fail, and get to running rough. That tells you to replace them. Nowadays, the hardest thing to find is a ...

Pertronix units don't like copper plug wires, so if you use the stock mil wires, resistor plugs are required. Those are hard to find, tho.

That block number is different than the usual T245 engine. Does it have the waterproof oil filler and dipstick? Those were unique features of the G741 series engines.

If you disassemble it after failure, you'll find the chinchyest contacts and bronze spring arrangement. And most of those handles are knock-offs from China, they even copy the data plate pretty good.

In over a half-century of driving M37's, I've never had a MC fail, just get a bit mushy.
However, I have had the metal ends of NOS brake hoses blow off for a real pucker-factor experience.

The MOST important thing with the PTO/trans interface is the insertion depth or 'backlash'.
This is accomplished with a gasket stack, otherwise it will bind up if too close and drag the countershaft and/or make noises.
