Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

Well, sent my liscense plate application in for a hobbyist plate, since my truck is heavily modified, that I would think is the class it would fall under. We'll see if they accept it or not.

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

got the new drivetrain all cleaned up, pulled the V8 out along with its drivetrain, and am getting set to start sticking the cummins in. here is a short video of it idling, I needed to make a few adjustments to the pump, so it is idling a bit slow in the video: http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/qq8...

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

Well, the swap is underway. I started tearing the v8 out, will have it completely out in the next day or two. Got the new diesel drivetrain bolted together, everything fits together as it should. I put a more aggressive fueling pin in the diesel, as well as a 3200 rpm governor spring. I also ditched...

Re: Modern Repower

Brett, I'd do option one for the simple reason that a double sized u joint does not travel at the same speed on both sides of the yoke, and as a result, could cause harmonic or vibration issues at high speed.

Re: Wisconsin MV License Plate Image

Brilliant idea: the application requires pictures of the vehicle to ensure original paint and drivetrain... All I need is pictures of a truck that will never hit the road again as well as a picture of my frame serial number and ill be all set. I don't like resorting to tretchery to get it registered...

Re: Wisconsin MV License Plate Image

Don't get me wrong I am appreciative of the efforts put in by all but it seems to me that modified trucks such as mine are still completely outside the realm of being legal so in effect the progress that has been made has no net positive effect for me. Time to move back up to the UP.

Re: Wisconsin MV License Plate Image

what? they can deny you if it's not original paint or drivetrain? Great. I think I'm just going to register mine at my parent's place in MIchigan. they dont have retarded rules like that.

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

Juan, It basically comes down to efficiency and reliability. I knew it would get a diesel some day, but, I also didnt plan on gas spiking ot 4+ dollars a gallon for a few more years. I figure I could run the gasser for a few years, beat it till it ate something important, then swap in a cummins, but...

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

Joe, I considered that ,but, then I would have to go find a new backing plate, flywheel, starter, etc. The stuff is all specific. contrary to popular belief, there are several different starters, flywheels, and adapter plates for the B series cummins, and they dont mix and match, it is all very spec...

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

Got it! Ford used the ZF5 S-42 5 speed overdrive transmission from 1987 to 1995. Has the exact same bellhousing, input shaft length, spline count, and bolt pattern as my T19 bellhousing, and, it has a 5th gear overdrive of .76:1! Will bolt right to the back of my cummins as-is! From there, I can get...

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

basically have 4 options of varying cost and complexity: 1.Make the adapter plate, use the current transmission and T case Pros: -Cheap, should be under $300 -99% sure it will work -all one unit, nice and short. Makes the rear driveshaft longer, better angle of operation, U joints last longer. -reus...

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

K8, Thats EXACTLY how it always seems to go. I have thought of the NV4500. I would love one, but, I need to liquidate some of my "inventory" first if I am going to afford such a beast. I have a big block 440, a NP435 good for parts, a few intake manifolds, a cylinder head off a big block, ...

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

It's a 2WD version, and, if I want to run married 4WD, I have to convert the transfer case over to passenger's side drop.
