Hey Charles,Door Glass Alignment ?s

Charles, I installed new weather striping and now the glass doesn't align with the weather seals and I am unable to loosen the stuck phillips head screws. Do you think a small amount of torch heat will free them and how should I free them if not by applying heat. Impact wrench? Comments please. Thanks

I always just put some iodine on my stuck screws or bolts, let them sit for a while (maybe even a few days depending on what it is, though if that long I normaly added more once in a while...). I had some stuck screws on my weather stripping and thats what I did at least.

Mac it's the screws in the door that allow the door glass tracks inside the door to be adjusted that have frozen not the screws that hold the weather strip metal retainer to the windshield and soft top frame. I have already removed the WS retainer and screws, stripped them of old paint and rust and repainted and reinstalled them with new screws. Now I need to realign the glass in the door to match the newly installed WS. I will try the iodine on the exposed screw heads but I am not sure that it will penetrate into the inside of the door to free the screws where they attached to the glass track, they are stuck tite.

We've done all sorts of things freeing stuck parts. I'm not exactly sure I understand what you are trying to do as the door glass tracks are slim to none on adjustment, not sure it would help your cause if you had the screws loose. What I would try first is a good quality screwdriver applying pressure counter clockwise on the screws with both hands while having an assistant tap the end of the screw driver handle squarely with a hammer. If this fails use a hammer & punch against the outer end of the phillips slot positioned such as to turn the screw counter clockwise when tapping the punch. This usually works unless really solid. If you are able to loosen slightly, apply good penetrant around the screw head, retighten the screw then back it out again. Repeat until the penetrant gets into the threads sufficiently, it should come out then with minimal effort. I would use heat only as a last resort being careful not to over do it. Never tried the iodine remedy, don't know how well that will work.

I am probably going about this the wrong way, it's just that the TM-9 8030 manual indicated some adj. might be made in order to more properly fit between the glass and W.S. to get a good seal. I'll try your ideas to get the screws loose and see what I happens .

Guys,
I've just dissembled a very rusted door and was able to get every screw out with a manual (hammer driven) impact driver. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked. It did take some aggressive hammering on some of them. I just thought I would share this.
