My truck has me thinking...

Post by Barley Pop »

I had a real nice man come over today with his wife and child to look at my truck that I have put so much into and is currently for sale. I showed him all there was and talked about what came with it was as honest as anyone should be, now my truck has me thinking. You know. While I was runnin it up I-17 north of Bell road stompin on the throttle showing him how easy it is to pass someone at 65-70 if you want and back to my house how sweet it sounds rumblin under the bridge, showing him all the extras that go with it. My truck now has me wondering why am I doing this, all the memories of buying it years ago, off roadin, building it, converting it, drinking beer and telling stories by the fire in the middle of no where camping. I'm at a loss, is this what I want to do. My son and I had several beers tonight talking about this old truck. Now I'm not so sure if I want to sell it.

Think Carefully.......

Post by Monkey Man »

Well Barley - I'd do some more thinking, it's a nice truck, well rebuilt and modded and worth the $ you're asking, Life however dosen't always allow for all you want but if I was in your shoes I'd be looking at all other options first. It is however your decision and in the end has to be something you are comfortable with, it is my wish that you end up happy whichever way you go :-)

I think of things like this every gun, motorcycle, tool, toy, truck, pup, or rescued dog that ends up going down road.

Part is, you've got this chore *done*. May be time to move on to something better you may have wanted to tie and try on.

Then you've got the truck going and tuned just like you like it. Gonna take years and/or tons of coinage to make something tickle your funny and wallet-bones that well again.

Unless a new owner has the dinero you want, in cash, on hand, right *now*, hang onto your sled.. You own it, it is you and the sons truck.

I have a similar problem now with Old Blue. He's in parts, got an honest offer, found a more complete M-37 that I might be able to buy from farmer if I dont blow deal.

Blue's parts are all new or OEM, Mil.spec NIB. I have thousands of dollars sitting in the shop just in all the little stuff needed to make my truck run again.
If I dump it all, I'll not have the geld to buy it all again if the *new truck* needs anything.

Ever so slowly, after making decision I'd keep Blue, I've turned a few bolts a day to keep project grinding on glacially slow to a few more assemblies completed.

If I sell now? I am sure I'll kick my own buttocks until they hurt..

Keep truck if you've got doubts, drive it, use it, enjoy fruits of labor, instead of always having a yard/shop queen, and never a parade princess..

Truck..

Be completely sure of your decision lest you regret it! Think it completely through or trust me you will be crying when that truck is driving into the sunset. I made the mistake of selling my first M37 before really deciding whether I wanted to sell it or not, and to this day regret that decision.

You need to ask yourself if you are finished with this truck, or is there more that you'd like to do? If the decision is because of need, say for financial reasons, or an illness that prevents further enjoyment of the truck, etc, that is one thing. However, if you decided to sell becuase of boredom, or a lack of interest right now, you may be making a mistake. Give it more time, think it over some more, then decide. Also, get the family involved as you are doing. Sometimes they will make the decision easier. I know in my case if I decided to sell, I'd have two upset little boys to deal with. I couldn't do that to them.

I've got too much blood, sweat, and tears ($) in mine to ever sell it-at least until I'm too old to keep it up, which hopefully won't happen for another 20 years or so.

If it is abso-tively necessary ago because you need the money for something VVVVVVEEEEEERYYYYYY important and there is no other way of getting this money somehow else, go ahead and sell it. However, if you are just selling, then DO NOT!!!!!!!!. This is a truck, that not only you got it running, but it runs the way you want. More important, it is not a truck that you can go and buy all over again from a dealership brand new. You may of course buy something else instead, but it will never be an M37. You may calculate all your expenditures and find a price to sell with a profit, but how about the memories of it, how about all the worries and fixing sollutions that came to your head in the middle of the night? Someone asked me if I was selling my truck the other day, and I said "yes, of course, 50,000 Euros". The astonished and confused man asked " why so much??". My answer was " If I told you less, you might buy it..."

Selling this truck reminds me of my 70 Dodge Charger I sold, did it for all the right reasons just knew I would miss it alot. So, it goes and I move on, just had several Beers with my Son who helped out on this truck and you know. I'll keep the memories along with the stories. I need several things, a tractor with a gannon box and front end loader as well as a 95-97 Dodge full size extended cab 4x4 Diesel to pull it to the property. Before I know it I'll be selling everything in Phoenix and moving up the hill.
