Rifle Mounting Location.

Post by Tim Powell »

Hey Crew! Long Time No See!
I purchased a replica M16A1 to mount in the M37 for parades and displays.
Anyone have some real good pictures and a proper location of where and how to mount the "gun" so it looks right?
I have the upper spring loaded retention handle, need to build the bottom part in the shop.
I also was given a beautiful Military radio to mount in the M37. It's a monster and I didn't know they carried any radio equipment
so I don't know where to mount it either?
Rifle first, we have 2 Veteran parades in Quincy Illinois November 7th.
I go to work tomorrow for a week so time is not my friend.

We hung ours from the windshield thumbscrews (pointing vertically) using the top handle of the M16A1-no mounts necessary.

Here is what I did with modern mounts. Same basic location as the military used.

Heres how our M16 is mounted, I put red lines on the bracket for a question someone in another thread asked I believe a while ago.

Our radio and mount are bolted to the rear troop seat in the bed behind the driver. Ive seen pictures of M37's done like that

I would sure like to get this setup for my 51 M, as long as it will still work with the heater defroster??
Where can I get all the hardware?
Is there room for 2 rifles?

The bracket that Jay has in his picture is designed to use with the defroster manifold in place and yes it is designed to hold two rifles.

Thanks Bert, than that is what I'm looking for, for my truck.
You mentioned it is designed to be used with the heater. Does that mean this is an authentic M37 Accessory?
Would it have a group / part / procurement type number that I can search for?
Can you suggest where I should begin my search for this setup?

Jay may I ask where you got yours?

Thanks for the help!

Dana,
I will upload the install Tech Bulletin for you, If I remember correctly it had all of the part numbers listed. I will also post pictures of the individual parts so that you know exactly what to keep your eyes open for.

The bracket is easy enough to bend one up yourself, there are two bolts in the bottom edge of you dash that this fastens to.
You will find miscellaneous parts on EBay or local Military parts swap meets. I just saw several of the butt stock holders on a table at Knob Creek earlier this month.

Bert Thanks for all your help!
I'll watch for the info, and begin my search. Unfortunately I seem to be a "Long Ranger" in the MV world in my area. I have not run across meets or shows anywhere close to the 4 Corners area.
I'll JUST KEEP LOOKIN

Ebay sells them kits and all, and if you cant find the bracket that goes to the dash you can make one like they said.
I think I might have a single mount kit still In the 1968 box, if I dot and anyone wants a single let me know. Minus the dash bent bracket for defroster.
