Hello, y'all!
I'm looking for information on the XM152 Panel Truck as used by the US Air Force.
1. What did the USAF use them for?
2. Who used them? Were they assigned to units, bases, or commands?
3. What sort of gear did they carry? Range instrumentation, test gear, or ice cream makers?
4. What sort of markings would they have?
Any help is appreciated and will be helpful.
Thanx in advance,
Russ

Hiya, Lifer!
Thanx for the quick reply!
I know from reading replies (yours) to other posts that the format is 2 digit year, a letter designating vehiclw type (usage), and then a 3 or 4 digit sequential number.
My '152 has a delivery date of 3 August 1953, so I know the first part of the number would be 53.
I could only guess (not knowing what '152's were used for) guess that the letter would be "K", "L", or possibly "M" or even "W".
I've not done ant sanding yet to see what lies under the topcoat, but am worried that it might already have been sanded. What few chips there are show grey primer, no blue. The black coat that is on it know was actually put on very carefully... it's really a pretty decent paint job. Far better than most I saw in the Army!
Hope I didn't answer my own question, I posted this question before I read older posts.

We did upgrades on 1 a few years back for a Canadian customer. His had been used previously for radio/communications vehicle.

The letter would definately be a "K" on your truck, but the year would most likely be "52." They usually went with the model year or (in the case of M-series vehicles) the year of manufacture, not the year of acceptance. On the sequential number, I'd imagine it may only have had a 3-digit number due to its being one of the earlier models. Leading zeroes were not used, so it's entirely possible to find a vehicle marked "52K 1." Extremely unlikely, of course, but possible.

Hiya, Cal Gary and all!
Thanx for the welcome guys!
Yes, the truck was on eBray several times... I had been considering a M37 but was dissuaded by the "bastard" engine it had in it, and kept noticing a ambulance being listed, a little lower every time it was re-listed. Price was right and I figured it was time to actually make the leap, so to say!

Hiya, Lifer and all!
I had a brain fart and totally neglected to mention this, but my XM152 has a diamond shaped plate at the far right end of the dash, between the glovebox and "A" pillar, that says "PROPERTY OF U.S. AIR FORCE - 568927 - DON NOT REMOVE THIS TAG". I know the number is too long to be a registration number, is it an administrative / property number?
Thanx in advance,
Russ
