M-37 / R-2 Rescue

Post by Halfdunn »

Hi all you great technical folks,

How do you install the rubber boots on the Brake and Clutch pedals into the floorboard? I do not want to cut a slit into them to slip over the pedal arms.

Thanks in advance.

two ways to do it that I know of :

1 boil water, heat boot, lube with soap slide over pedal (pliers may be needed) small job... not always successful

2 pull floor pan, remove pedal from pivot rod. boil water, heat boot, lube with soap slide over small end. big job higher success rate

Thanks RMS,

do the boots just sit on the inside of the floor pan or do they project up into the cab from below acting as a snubber for the pedals hitting the pan?
These were written up at the MVPA judging in the Motor Pool Category of my vehicle.

I always thought they were under the floor, to prevent water detritus from entering the cab?

The boots stay on the pedals, not thru the floor pan. The seal is effected with the flat surface against the bottom of the pan.

Thanks Gents, will try and sneak them onto the pedal arms, flat surface to the floor pan.

A dip in DOT 3 brake fluid will make them really slippery with no ill effects.

Thanks for the tip. Will try it soon. Replaced my master cylinder with a kit and am bleeding the brakes now.
