M37 Bikini top

Post by ZGjethro »

I was shopping around on the Beechwood canvas site, and I saw the vinyl bikini tops for the M37 offered there. The price is pretty steep for a top with no window or zippers, but they make it custom for you. That is why it is so expensive, around $450. I would really like one for summer driving. Does anyone here have one, or know of other options or makers?

You could try New Life Canvas. They make custom tops to your specifications. Not sure what it would cost, but it would be worth the time to find out. Get an old M37 top in good condition and modify it into a bikini top.

New Life has the complete top for $375. Remove the sides and back and you'll have your bikini !

That is a much more reasonable number. I contacted Beechwood last year, and they said their bikini was so expensive (my word choice) since it was custom made for each client, as opposed to the zippered tops which they stock. I have a hard time agreeing with that price since it is one piece of canvas with some grommets in it. It does look real sharp though. I have been looking for old tops to do the work myself, but I have not found anything. The top that came with my truck was a rag.

I have to note, the $450 is for a vinyl top which adds $90 to their canvas bikini price of $375. I thought you were talking about some top which has zip off sides and back. New life is the same price essentially

Will has the right idea. Of course a heavy duty industrial style sewing machine helps. You can buy those cheap on Gov. Liquidations. I learned early on to sew and 22 years of sewing stripes and name tags on uniforms was a piece of cake. When I got married my wife claimed she did not know how to sew!

I have found Beachwood to be a high production outfit that concentrates it's in house muscle on volume sales of fast moving designs and any custom work is more of a PITA to them.

Hey Wes,
Am I seeing a new career/side line for you? When I bought my M it had a vinyl Bimini suspended w/bungee cords, it was a mess!
I have some idea has to how to make another, but from the right cloth.

Had anyone contacted Mona at New Life? If there is a demand for them maybe she would consider making them.

Mine was simple and very easy (except for the darn bungee grommets). Quickly seamed all four sides, and then sewed the fiberglass snow pole into the front and walla. Perhaps I should get into the business.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Moderators, I double posted this topic. Any chance the responses can be combined in one thread?
