I don't have any photos of bows stored correctly accross the front of the bed. There is a nice picture of them stored that way in the much maligned David Ahl book... Also in one of the TM's (remember seeing it, but not which one).

I don't like that manner of storrage as the bows tend to rattle more than I like so I converted my truck to store the bows vertically in a manner similar to that used on the M101 trailers...

If somebody doesn't post a photo by Saturday, I'll go and take some since I have a couple of trucks with the straps and can put the bows in place and strap them down for a photo op...

Here we go again... the pullman straps are used to secure the bows in the stored position-right? I agree that I don't like the idea of them banging around either - even if they are secured. Not that I'm building a trailer queen, but I would probably leave in the garage to avoid dinging the paint job.

I have tried different ways of stowing the bows and found that there seems to be a couple of ways of carying them. Laid at an angle on top of the headboard blocks the view thru the rear windou so that's no good . I tried to place them behind the cab layed flat but rattling, shifting around and scratched paint led me to stow them standing up, like Cabell described.
Here are some pix taken of the different ways tried.

Looking Real Good

Post by m-37Bruce »

Hey CGR,
Your buggy is looking less like a working plow hand and more like show room honcho! Cabel, I thought I had a better memory than that?

thought that big square hoop on the pass side of the bed was for stowing the bows, on the outside over the fender?

But Tom, I think your loosing me on this one, where exactly is this hoop on the pass. side, you might be referring to the Jump Seat, it's behind the spare wheel/tyre.

Loops

Post by m-37Bruce »

If its what I think it is, there should be one on either side, these are what the bows were supposed to anchor to?

Yes, there should be one on each side of the bed...directly opposite each other. My truck has one on the passenger side, but the one on the driver's side is missing.
