Got one more, bought a '84 Chevy C 30 Dumper yesterday, new 350 crate motor, runs, stops, bed goes up and down and no leaks ( what's on the foreground was there before it was parked for this shot)
I'm looking for a manual like Chiltons or ??. Anyone have one to sell or know someone that does?

We have run a lot of GMC - Chev's. I don't think the early 80's was GM's finest hour. A lot of small mickey mouse things will drive you nuts. For Starters - the speedometer always strips out when you turn a bunch of zeros. The wiper motors were poor. I bet the original radio is toast.
But for the most part they are a good work horse. You will get alot done with that.

Well Tom. you are absolutely correct, yesterday I got a call from the shop doing the vehicle inspection and it has a bunch of things that failed, no instrument or brake lights, no emergncy brake, speedometer not working, wiper motors burned out all things that I can fix.
On a positive note, no cab rust anywhere, tires like new, no oil leaks and the engine starts and runs like new but it replaced a diesel according to the VIN which listed it as being produced with one.

LMC truck will become you're new favorite shopping place. The nice thing about this vintage of truck, is that "everything" is still available in either reman, nos, or new copy. If the wiring is suspect in these trucks, and it usually is, its probably cheaper, faster, and easier, to just purchase a new wiring harness and be done with the problems of wiring gremlins... Thats usually 300 bucks well spent. I've got three of these vintage of Chevy's and GM's sitting in the yard right now, and they all suffer the same problems that your's has.

I told Sandy that I would probably need to install a new harness instead of trying to repair the old one and was wondering where to get one so you have helped a lot in my search, thanks. I had checked out LMC a while back for rust repair panels for my '77 M882 but they were not available and I had forgotten all about them when thinking about the wiring harness. The shop where I took the truck for inspection said they could fix all the problems for somewhere around $1000 but for all that I know or knew was wrong I can do it all for about half of that so that's the plan. Areas of the dump bed need repair also but again that's something I can do here since I have two welders, stick and MIG the ability to weld and have the steel needed for the job.

Doing some much needed spring cleaning and also packing my seabags for my upcoming shipping out date and came across a Chilton Repair Manual - Chevy GMC 1970 - 1987 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton.

As a sidenote - as much as love to plow with my M37 I was not happy about the 12 inches of snow last Friday. Nothing like plowing a combination of snow and mud.... and I was just getting to rake the lawn.....

Thanks for the offer, that's what I've been looking for, saw some on a used book site and the prices were all over the place, from $4.44 to 29.99. and it seemed as the more they cost the worst condition they were in

The ones that show no use, probably have the least useable information... The ones that are wornout, probably have the best information, hence the used condition...

At least that would be the most practical explanation...

Unless the really tattered ones are from being thrown across the shop in frustration...

Never did that with my manuals but after splitting my thumb open with a BFH it sailed across the shop and directly through a double "pain" window.

I'm of a similar mind, books and manuals get treat really well, as well as "delicate" tools. Hammers and such though...
I'd be a liar if I said I've never "long-bombed" one...

I almost always feel better for an instant afterward as well, untill I realize the Hammer has bounced of something important or expensive...

Been trying to keep busy since Lee passed so the C30 has been the object of my attention. Had to do a lot to get it legal and on the road. Replaced spring U bolts, installed new battery tray, replaced broken emergency brake cables and installed new front calipers/pads, rewired elec system, fixed broken seat adjuster, new carpet, replaced broken cab top and bed marker lights, added new tires, all that took my free time this summer and now I'm welding on rusted out dump bed sides with still more to do. After this is done I will sand and paint it this fall when the weather is better and humidity is lower, been 95/100% lately with all of the east coast rains we've had because of huricanes Irene and Lee.
