Haven't posted in forever, probably ought to just consider myself a "second time newbie"...
Just got back from the desert (yeah, THAT desert): New project truck ('52 M37 - numbers to follow), new other half, new life.
Removed LU-2 winch, front steel, fenders, et all, last few weekends, finally pulled the engine this evening. Doesn't look like I'll have to crack into the pistons and cylinders, but the exhaust manifold will need to be replaced, and, of course all of the gaskets and rubber.
Truck was a brush fire truck for the Netarts Fire Protection District, and covered in oxidized fire engine red, but the insides are still green. Before that, she was with the Oregon National Guard.
Planned modifications are: Side mount spare (milspec), upgraded master cylinder (two stage), front disc brakes, halogen headlights, seat belts.
Things I'm going to need over the course of the rebuild (can't buy much in the way of parts, but if you happen to see something on the list and are in a position to hang on to it, I'd be happy to do some horse trading down the line):
Hard top.
Heating system (either an M151A2 kit or the stock unit for the M37).
Extra set of wheels (I want to use military NDTs for the dry season, and modern tread for the wet and white stuff - this IS my "get the heck out of Dodge" Dodge.)
Fording kit.
Troop seats, top bows & hardware.
Good sources for the standard pioneer gear.
Man it's good to be back home and wrenching on my truck again!

Welcome home from the sandbox and welcome back to the forum. Thank you for your service. Post some pics of your rig. I am always eager to see another ex-firetruck M37 before refit.
