Post by Gerry »

Does any one have a list of what engine parts are what color? I am trying to go back to factory starting with the silver engine.

This might be a good reference ... A resto based on an "as delivered" truck. Lots of engine shots:

The oil pump should be Silver. In general, items which would have come down the assembly line - like the complete long block less accessories would have been silver, including the transmission and bell housing. Sid

Like Sid said. The complete major assembly was silver, including the lifting bracket. The bolt-on accessories (starter, generator, distributor, air cleaner, dipstick tube, oil filler tube) were semi-gloss black, The cap on the oil filler tube, however, was red.

It's interesting though, how some paint theirs OD. I guess some of this is subject to personal taste or interpretation.

My AF truck will have black accessories.

Not so surprising, actually. The Army did paint the engines, transmissions, transfer cases, etc. OD whenever it was necessary to overhaul them. The AF painted everything gray at that point. I don't know what the Navy/Marine corps did.
