Re: 24 Volt Military Coil Modification

When I bought Brutus, he had two batteries set up for 24 V which ran the starter, but the ignition was a civilian 12 V distributor. They ran this off a 24V to 12V DC to DC converter. It was a large one. It also ran the horn and the lights. I had no problems with it, other than the fact that the horn...

Re: 24 Volt Military Coil Modification

What distributor are you running? Remote running a coil with the waterproof dist is tough to do. First post says civilian distributor. installed a DeBella coil in my military dizzy last summer, thus far all good. hal I've got 5000+ miles on my Debella Jeeps coil with a Pertronix MV-161A electronic ...

Re: 24 Volt Military Coil Modification

Truck is 24 volt but using a civilian distributor and civilian oil pump. Is it possible hook a coil wire to a military 24 volt coil so that it can be sued with a civilian distributor? Has anyone hear done that? Were running a Bosch 24 volt coil that looked like a regular coil but that one has faile...

Re: 24 Volt Military Coil Modification

I use 24 volt Pertronix epoxy filled Flamethrower coils on my Mercedes Unimog 404 trucks. The part number is 40611. I have never burned one out. I don't see any mention of the system voltage the coil is designed for on the 40611 page of the Pertronix web site or in the installation manual (the manu...

Re: 24 Volt Military Coil Modification

Pertronix sells 24V ignition systems. They do sell coils, but I don't know if they sell coils intended for use with 24V systems. Worth a call to ask them.

Re: Trailering with Uhaul

I have not, but given that the stated capacity is less than the load you are planning to carry it would seem to me that if you do run into trouble you are setting yourself up to assume all liability for it. I would bet that U-haul is quite familiar with "settling" these types of issues. I...

Re: Embedding videos in phpBB

Indeed this is the straightforward option, John. But when clicking, you open YT in the same tab or page. You get out of the forum. The idea was you can embed the video here and you don't need to navigate to other sites. But it's fine. Nevermind. That would be nice, but I just control click (on a Ma...

Re: Fuel additives ?

I’m not aware of anything that revitalizes stale fuel. Most are designed to prevent it from deteriorating.

If your engine was running fine, why not just drive it to use it up soon? These engines were designed to run on mediocre gas.

Re: Vapor fuel filter

Are you sure you vapor locked? It's unusual for that to happen when the engine is running. Usually, it happens when things have gotten thoroughly warmed up, then the engine is shut down and the heat vaporizes the fuel which is no longer moving in the lines. This makes it difficult to restart the eng...

Re: winch cable

Mine is 175' of 6 x 39 IWC 7/16" DIA. RH lay. I had the local rigging company make the chain and hook ends and spool it on. It wasn't expensive. They gave me some training in cable handling and also the cleaners and greases for maintenance. It is lift rated at more than the winch is rated for....

Looking good!

Is that a tach just to the right of your steering column? If so, where did you pick up the signal for it?

Re: winch cable

There is some great info on winch cable in this post. Thanks to all who contributed. I'm curious if anyone has ever used swaged cable on their M37 winch. This is the preferred cable on logging winches used in forestry applications. It's higher strength than similar diameter cable, more crush and abr...

Re: MasterPro GL 4 Gear Oil

I have not actually measured the difference, but someone else once told me they just reach inside the fill plug with their little finger and see if they can touch the fluid. If they can, they figure it's OK. Not very scientific, I know. Since I can't fit my little finger all the way in, I'm just gue...

Re: MasterPro GL 4 Gear Oil

I see a lot of comments here ans elsewhere that synthetic lubes cause leaking. It appears there was some truth to this in the early days of synthetic lubes, as they could leach something out of the seals affecting their performance. The specs for modern synthetic lubes are more seal friendly, and in...
