Re: 1952 M37 CDN Restoration

on the top of the winch, there is meant to be a "locating plate" instead of the two pieces of angle, it's purpose is to keep both sides of the castings completely square with each other. they're available from VPW or MWM for not very much money :)

Re: Winch Questions

Very good advice here. I was also considering making a new shift shaft from stainless, since I seem to like unnecessarily difficult projects. I've not looked into how stainless and aluminum would react with each other, but stainless bolts are used in aluminum marine engines.... So I think it would r...

Re: Winch Questions

your second question is the answer to your first question :) that lever is the engage/free spool lever, and you'll need to get it free'd up and moving to get the most out of your winch. sounds like it's stuck in the free spool setting. lift the round handle to disengage the catch from the hole it si...

Re: floating gears

I do need to order up some synthetics and redo my diffs, transmission, and T case. Extra horsepower is a bonus!

Re: Distributor wobbling?

Get a photo with the slot vertical, so the shadow isn't affecting it as much, it will be easier to see that way :)

Re: Distributor wobbling?

You have to look close, if you just glance at it, it can be easy to miss that its off center. I looked at the military distrubutor several times before noticing the tab wasn't centered.

Re: floating gears

My tower is worn to the point that it's prett hard to get it out of second without touching 1st. It's high on my list of things to address. Makes it hard to float the gears. There's really no reason to though, the clutch is fun ;)

Pulled a trailer across frozen tundra through a foot of snow today. Not very many other production vehicles that you could do that with.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

took the truck out today in a foot of snow across the tundra, does pretty great! now i have my winch off to rebuild it, needs new seals at a minimum, and some work on the rear worm shaft bearing retainer. I think it also needs new drum bushings, and a lot of cleanup on the clutch dog shaft and handl...

Re: Front Prop Shaft

most driveshaft shops can probably cut the bad section out and rebuild it for you for fairly cheap. i definitely wouldn't run it like that! it'll twist off in a second haha

Re: 24VDC Schauer Battery Charger $74.99

Carter, any led will work for this, you'll just need a resistor in line with it. most LED's will be brightly visible at 10-30mA of current, and most drop about .7 volts, so doing math, and assuming 25 volts on the system (it will be a little more when running, but won't hurt anything) and using ohms...
