Winch Cable Core

Post by delta31 »

What I have found for 7/16 winch cable there is both steel core cable and fiber core steel cable.
This is mainly from online suppliers for wreckers. I would think that fiber core would be
much more flexible while the steel core would be stiffer but stronger. Was a type of cable specified for the LU 4 winch?
Thanks

Back when the cables, (Wire Rope) were installed on the winches they used a natural fiber core wire rope. Now you can get wire rope with a synthetic core. I would think a steel core cable would be hard to wind around the drum and might become a mess.

If you are not trying to be original you could get a totally synthetic winch rope.

I have to Agree on the Fiber Core.
Much easier to handle on wrap around the drum.

The original wire rope was fiber core.
