Generator sometimes puts out about 35 volts in red on gauge. Check with meter show about 35 volts. I shut engine off and restart,and it goes back to normal charging, about 27 volts,green on gauge. I have read to be careful opening or adjusting regulator. Any advice or guidance is appreciated.

I opened mine up and cleaned the contacts very carefully with some business cards and Deoxit. It's possible one of them is sticking a bit.
