Looking for Pictures of the Interior of Gun Trucks

Post by Elvis A Presley »

Howdy! We picked up a very clean M37B1 and are thinking about recreating a gun truck. I have lots of pictures and details from the outside, but not all that much information concerning the inside!! If anyone has pictures of what the inside looks like - both cab and bed - I would really appreciate it!

Or... some details you may have from personal experience.
Like:
Seating arrangement
Radio type and placement
Antenna placement (or more than one)
Gun placement - I've seen mid-mounted, fitted to the armor on both sides, as well as the M24A2 (which is pretty scarce)
Other stuff - I've seen cases of Bud, 20mm ammo cans, M3 grease guns, mermite cans and soda in cans..

Thanks!

"Mr. Nice" is the most famous Vietnam-serving M37 gun truck to my knowledge. Let your internet skills do the searching. :)

I’ve pulled everything I could find off the internet, plus all the research used to re-create Malfunction - just trying to see if there’s anything else not yet scanned to the WWW. You just never know!!!

You could contact the Army Transportation Museum in VA.

They have a section on gun trucks.

I don't have personal experience because all the troops where home when I was 14, but I've talked to a few vets over the years and I what I've been told is that armament was what ever the GIs could get their hands on that would give them fire power. 1919s, M2s, M60s etc. Full auto was key. The inside of the bed was just the stacks of ammo cans to feed the beasts. The GI's often stood on the cans. Sometimes sandbags where put on the bed floor prior to loading the ammo so that they could get a little blast protection from IEDs. I hope that helps.
M37s are HMMWV in my world!
