I am looking for some experienced advice on how to adapt a 4BT diesel to the NP420 transmission on an 1954 M37. I have looked around the internet and have not found much information. Most people change out the transmission to something like a NV4500. I rather not, and looking for an adapter or direction to who can do this. The engine has already and NV4500 flywheel housing.... first post so greatly appreciate all comments.

Welcome to the G741!
Send a PM over to Charles at MSeriesRebuild here on the forum. His life's work is on these military vehicles to include diesel swaps. He should be able to help.

Don't waste time adapting a 4 speed tranny to a 4BT engine that tops at 2800rpm. Get yourself an OD tranny that bolts up to the 4BT and be happy.
I would go with a ZF 5S42 from a ford diesel or a Spicer 3053A from the deuce

I used the Spicer 3053 trans with the 16% OD behind a Detroit 3-53. Cruise @ 68 with that combo, and the winch PTO is on the correct side.
