Texas M-37 Project

Hello All,
Well, the journey is well underway and I thought I'd share a bit... I purchased the truck last October and have completed disassembly and just about have the frame completed. Have the new wiring harness and waiting on brake lines. Also cleaning up the engine by repainting block and stripping and repainting the oil filter cannister, intake, carburetor and breather. Sure is fun!!

Thought I'd update everyone on my project... parts are coming back from the sandblaster and I'm getting a good primer on them before a small bit of Bondo work where I had some fabrication welded in... Hopefully, will go back on the frame in about a week or so. By the way, I noticed several have named their M-37 so after great thought, I have chozen "FIONA", because like in the Shrek movies, she is an ogre on the outside but a princess on the inside!

Looks great! And that’s a good name. Ogres are green too so very appropriate.
My truck has been in the family for years, and has always been called the bump truck, or Gertrude... I think because it brings to mind a temperamental and grumpy old woman. (Apologies to any Gertrudes that don’t fit that bill)

That looks like it's going to be a great truck.

My M37 came with the name "Brutus" painted on the doors. I had thought about removing it or renaming it, but decided that Brutus was a nice fit (my wife agreed), so I didn't have the heart to change it.

About 6 months after I bought it, I asked the previous owner what the story was behind the name. His response was, "It was there when we bought him. We thought about changing it, but my wife and I both decided it was a good fit."

We all agreed that Brutus is definitely a "he". Half of my little town refers to him by name. Rarely is he referred to as "your truck".

Hello All,
Hope this finds you all well and enjoying your trucks... It has been several months since I shared a photo or two with everyone to see how my project is doing. The project is going well, I hope you enjoy the update! Keep in mind I am on old Seabee, hence the Navy gray color. Navy identification and Seabee logo will be going on the doors soon.

Did you have your body sand blasted or soda blasted? Could you tell us (or PM me) how much you paid? I'd like to get a ballpark number.

Hello Greeno,
I disassembled the truck and took the individual pieces to be sandblasted inside and out... I think there were 31 pieces including cab, bed, etc. I paid $1200 for the sandblasting. I did all the priming myself but took all the pieces to a paint company for the final paint.

Glad to report that almost one year to the day, I put batteries in the truck and using an external fuel source, despite sitting for as many as fifteen years, she busted right off. What a good day!! Have to work on some idle problems, even though I rebuilt the carb, she keeps getting loaded up and the idle adjustment screw does nothing... Also am attaching another photo since I put the graphics on her.
