I have been searching for old posts here and SS but have not been able to find anyone that has anything to say about Vintage Power Wagons steel 17 inch rims on reconditioned centers. Other than they are expensive. How do they run with the 8.5 back spacing? Wheel rub? Any comments.

Any current leads to possibly have old rim centers sent off to have new 17 inch drop center rims welded on?

The only reason I won't buy them is no NDTs in 17".

I've got a set on my V8 powered M37, running 37x12.50 tires. Haven't had any issues at all, no rubbing and drive nicely.

After lots of thought about tires for my M37 I am going to stick with the NDTs on my 6.5 lock ring rims. I already have the tires for the truck anyway.

The Michelin XZL is cool looking but the supplies are drying up. Plus it doesn’t look any safer than the NDT tires. They both have big blocks of rubber.

The NDTs stand around 35 ish inches tall. So I don’t want a less tall tire. The XZL stands about 36 ish inches tall.

The VPW 17 inch rims will pop me back over 1k. Then I would have to find tires. I might could live with a tire that stuck out beyond the fender a little but not as much as the 37x12.50 tires would to give me 36 inch height.

All the other modern tire sizes I found are just are not tall enough.

I did find a Toyo Open County M/T tire that is close in size to the NDT. It’s a LT285/75R17 at 34 inches tall. It’s a good looking tire too. It’s a little over 11 inches wide and would stick out some as well.

The last option I was tempted by was the STA / Super Lug 8 Ply 900-16. It stands just over 36 inches and looks like it would be better in the wet. It will fit the 6.5 inch stock rims.

Well… back to focusing on getting the truck done.

Andy, known as ashyers has Super Lugs and they seemed nice to me, I drove his truck and it was Cadillac smooth I have to say, plus they would be much safer in the wet. I have Power King tires that came on my truck, they are similar to Super Lugs, they felt pretty good when I drove it on pavement.
