2018-Another bad fire season...

Post by Cal_Gary »

Hello All,
After a light Winter the Inter Mountain West is now burning-close to a dozen fires in Utah alone and a state of emergency has been declared. The closest fire is about an hour away from our home and we can smell the smoke.

Veronica and I are safe, and prepared to bug out if necessary. We live in the Wasatch Mountains at 6200 feet, with only two paved roads to get out, but with the M37 I could cut my own path off the mountain if I absolutely had to. Our RV is stored in the valley so we will still have shelter if the unthinkable were to happen.

Hope all had a safe 4th of July!

Don't ever think you will outrun a forest fire off road in a M37. Even in a straight line it will not happen but breaking trail it surely will not happen and one misstep or spot where you have to back track and even with a big head start you are going to die. That line of thought should just be forgotten. This coming from an old retired firefighter who has has the crap scared out of him more than once by natures fury.

Hi Gary,

I've been watching the fires out west and hoping that they stay out of your neck of the woods. Its always good to have an extra backup plan to bug out.

We will keep you, Veronica and the dogs in our thoughts and prayers through the fire season.

Regards,

Bert

Hey Gary,

Keeping you and the family in our prayers as well for safety. Just had a co-worker return from Durango, Co and said it was thick as well.

Stay safe.

My place in Forbes Park, Colorado is right on the edge of going up in smoke (Spring fire- 100,000 acres and 5% contained) Over 100 of my neighbors houses are gone. A nightmare. Fire started by careless illegal alien (from Denmark!)

I e-mailed him a few weeks ago when that fire was at their doorstep and he was fine, the fire was going the other way.

Thanks Rick!

Surprisingly we got a nice rain shower this evening that was deemed "widely scattered" but we can sure use it!

Well I think my place is now officially safe-- the firefighters stopped the flames literally across the street from our land. 107,000 acres burned.(Forbes Park, Spring fire). Hoping for a lot of rain. It was touch and go.
