We had a nice ceremony at the James P. Lowder Jr. VFW post Monday. The attendance seems to grow each year. This is the third year for my truck to be displayed there along with a fine M35 owned by Tim a Desert Storm vet who has many interesting stories. I am honored that they ask me and proud to be there for them.
Afterwards Jim the local barber gave me a history lesson on the local families who lost loved ones in WWII. Many of the families here have been around since pre-Revolutionary War days. The area is rich in history and it is always good to take a listen.
Recently the post received a fragment of P-51 rib recovered in France belonging to a Norwood pilot who was shot down and KIA.
I had a special Memorial Day as the family entrusted me as the keeper of a very special heirloom. The dress cavalry sword belonging to my wife's uncle Max. Sgt. Max Stark US Army served in both Korea and Vietnam and was awarded a special engraved dress sword for his service in 1971. I have many of his in country photos and medals. This tops off the collection. It will always be there to remind us that all gave some and some gave all...
