While on the subject of transfer cases, Since it now appears that I will be removing mine from the truck, would I be dumb for just fixing the problem and putting it back together? or should I toss some new seals in it while it's on the bench?
I know there is some wear to the bearings, but they are not noticeably loose. All 4 shafts leak some (as does most of the rest of the truck) But again not like it has holes in it, but more than I would prefer to see. My goal for the truck is not a show queen, but an occasional driver. I want it mechanically sound and original as possible. I'll leave the frame off resto for the next guy.
Is it worth the risk of screwing something else up to toss some new seals in it? Likely hood of success? $30 in seals going to lead into $300 of bearings when I screw it up?
And side note, where can I find a manual to do so? Right now I'm just going off my general knowledge. And what ever I can find on the net. There has got to be TM's online for this somewhere right?

Re: Transfer case seals
see the thread 'ins and outs of transfer case rebuild" for a nice printout of the xfer case rebuild manual.
imo it would be well worth your time, if you have it out and partially disassembled anyway, to put new modern seals, redi-sleeves, and stainless shift shafts in it. then refill with amsoil 50wt (IIRC, going by memory on this one)
