Mystery Bracket

So I'm surfing the M37 ads on ebay, and came across what is listed as a '63 M37 (probably a USMC truck): http://www.ebay.com/itm/152193910759?ul ... fresh=true
Browsing through the detail shots, I notice an unfamiliar bracket in the cab. It appears to be a reinforcement between the hinge pillar for the driver's door and the bottom edge of the instrument panel. And it looks factory-made, not some sort of field modification. Oddly, there isn't a matching bracket on the passenger side. I can't find it in any of the G-741 parts catalogs (although without exploded parts diagrams for the cab structure, the books are sometimes like looking for a needle in a haystack
).
Any idea what this bracket is for? Some sort of unique Marine Corps modification?
Part number?
Why isn't there one on the passenger side?
