cooling system capacity

Post by Cav Trooper »

Ok, I just flushed and refilled my M37 cooling system. I checked the internet for capacity and found that it was 25 qts. Bought 3 gals distilled water and 3 gals straight undeluted antifreeze. Filled the system and found it would only take 4 gallons. Finally found the tm and it stated 18 qts. I'm assuming someplace somebody got it wrong to capacity. The site I looked at said that it was all the specs. as delivered to the US Army. I thought at first since I couldn't get the 25 qts in that I possibly had an air lock and I tried to bleed the air but it didn't make a difference. I drove a couple of miles and it never overheated and stayed at 160 deg. like always. Anyone else found the difference in specs?

18 seems right, maybe 25 is if you have the additional heaters installed? i know i've drained a few and never had close to 25 qts

I have the fender mounted heater and still got 18 qts. Was just curious about what was in print.
