Moving a transfer case by yourself is no easy job, I used a cherry picker to unload one from the trailer and move it into the garage cause I didnt want to think about trying to lift it. They built these things heavy back then!

so tempted to simply paint the red cross back on
if for no other reason i hate the billboard painted on the side by the previous owner
i have a feelin its impossible to match the same color of olive drab
so to cover it up and make it look right
i would have to paint the entire rig
that aint happening outside
in the south dakota winter
by a kid that doesnt even own a sprayer or a big enough compressor to run one

i got my wheel seals and the giant socket needed. now i just need to grow some gonads and build cribbing so i can safely work on this 3 1/2 ton truck . i dont own jackstands i would trust for this

Sounds like you are still making positive progress by getting the parts you need, for when the weather turns in your favor. No sense in trying to work on it in freezing temperatures and getting frustrated, spring is just around the corner.

using a 6 foot cheater pipe.
i just snapped a heavy duty tire iron handle trying to loosen the first lug nut

It was a driver's side lug nut, wasn't it? Left hand side, left hand threads. I had the same problem when I tried to get the tires off my '63 Imperial!

Use a wire brush to clean the face of each stud, they should be stamped either "R" or "L", and sometimes a broken lug would be replaced with something that doesn't match that side of the truck

Check to make sure the head is stamped with an R

Lugs on my truck were tight but came loose with just a 2ft bar and stepping on the end of it. Looked like they had been lubricated by the previous owner though.

put a buncha parts ,tires etc on craigslist so i can buy a torque multiplier to remove those giant lugnuts.

i know about left handed lugs..
the reason why i want a multiplier instead of an impact is. on the side of the road i wont have a big ass compressor OR an electrical outlet.

Ive had to use heat on a few, not ideal but was the only thing that worked

I had to burn one of my right hand studs off due to it turning in the hub. Rather than pulling the axle and the hub with the wheel, I decided to put the gas axe to it. I was warned about heating too much with the wheel attached as the pressure can rise rapidly and end up catastrophic. Be careful if you use heat on any wheel with the tire still on. Like Isaac, even my old ones came off pretty easy. A cheater on the proper lug nut wrench will move even the most stubborn wheel nuts. Once they are backed off a bit, a bit of lube on the threads will make the rest easier. On reassembly, I use neverseize to make it easy for the next guy.

these nuts are tight!

going to open up the transmission and transfer case for an in depth look see and use a master rebuild kit on each
waiting for my torque multiplier so i can repack the wheel bearings
replace the gasket on the rear end
i hope the wheel bearings are in good shape
there are a lot of new components on this rig
but then it just sat so everything dried out etc
old trucks hate just sitting
