Recently purchased a WC axle housing and axle shafts to swap into my modified M37. I know ill have to move the spring perches, and make shock mounts, but I remember Ray at Ugly Truckling used to have a great tech article on the swap, including having to do some machine work, drilling the stud holes, and how many gaskets needed to shim the diff carrier. Unfortunately his website no longer lists that article, and his email address is full, so there's no way to contact him.
So who has done the swap, and help me out. I'm 99% sure the housing is a 3/4 ton, so I believe I need just 1 gasket and needs no machine work, but id like to double check to make sure.

I have never done the swap, but if the pinion seal is 4 inches in diameter. Use just 1 gasket you should me fine. Modify spring mounts as needed I would also check length of the WC axle its longer than m37 axle.

Yup, WC is wider by a couple of inches, but not a big deal. I'm using my M37 gear chunk and setting it into the WC axle, so yes its a 4" pinion seal, hopefully one gasket will do. Unless I find more information, ill just have to measure everything when it gets here and go from there

Borrow or buy the Power Wagon Interchange manual by John Zentmeyer. It lists dimensions and interchanges for axles, differential, transmissions and transfer cases for the PW and M37. The later WC axles have a tag welded on them that says to use 1 gasket. These housings have a spacer ring welded to the carrier mounting surface. The early housings don't have the spacer and require 2 gaskets. VPW has the Manual listed as TM9-1808C, it is well worth the money for people doing driveline swaps.
