Up 'til now, the only driving was on and off the trailer or turning it around in the drive. After removing all the existing wiring, I put enough temporary wiring in to start, run and charge the battery. Took it out for a little under the radar drive for a few miles. I was expecting slow. I've got that in spades. Definitely need to replace the shift shaft and pjn so shifting won't be like stirring mud. Braking is adequate for the lack of top speed. Steering is about on a par with my old CornBinders. Even without lights or other amenities, I will now be able to drive to the upcoming MV show. (With Jeep ahead and behind in convoy)
I think this is going to be a fun toy/project.

Congratulations! I remember that day with mine-gave me a baseline for prioritizing and starting the work. My philosophy remains "mechanicals over cosmetics", meaning make the vehicle safe before worrying about how it looks.

Gary is so right. Mechanicals over cosmetics. We have all seen young poeple, with their first car or truck, invest
whatever money available in stereo systems, chrome wheels and hands free cell phones. This with little or no regard
for safety or reliability. At least they will be able to call for help and listen to music while broke down.

Right now, my biggest issue is carburetion. I think they kitted the carb on it with a kit for the correct carb for the truck. I'm going to have to sort the unknown model (can't read the markings) Carter B&B on it. It's a 1bbl, shouldn't be that difficult. I mean, I'm used to dealing with multicarb settups and much more complicated dribble tubes. (Weber, SU, Mikuni, etc)

Well, the carb and sediment bowl were full of red 'wool' and the ports were plugged up. Cleaned it all out, put a trash trap in line ahead of the pump. New plugs (old ones had a pink tint from the 'wool' running through the engine), points, cap, rotor and set timing, idle and mixture.
gonna have to open the tank and get that failed filter out of it to stop the wool gathering.
Tomorrow I'll gin up some brake lights and adjust the brakes and clutch.
Got it registered and insured. Gotta drive it some more!

Sounds like you are moving right along on your project. Be sure those brakes work well before heading down the road.
