So what's planned for Veterans' Day?

Post by Cal_Gary »

I plan a static display first, flying the flags on mine in the center of the cul-de-sac. FYI, Jiffy Lube is offering free oil changes to all veterans and service members for Veterans' Day here in Utah (with proof of military service), so I picked up an oil filter and plan to roll down to the Jiffy Lube for the free oil change-that should be a sight when I roll up to the door, and I'll try to get some pictures.
More to follow,
Gary

So here are a couple of shots from the local Jiffy Lube down the hill. Jeff and crew loved the truck and really took care of us!

I was thinking something along the same line... He'd probably be more at home in a 2.5 or 5 ton...

Looks good Gary...

I like the "patina" of your truck. I left mine with the factory(faded) paint too. Some people ask when I'm gonna paint it. I'm not,52 year old paint looks really good to me.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I was beginning to wonder if anyone saw this post-must have been a busy Veterans' Day! :)

Yes, that was the Store Manager and he's a good size-I go about 240 but he dwarfed me. He and a couple of the other techs got to move it around, and I know they all got a kick out of it while I got the free oil change (providing my own filter-NAPA Gold 1100 if anyone was wondering).

All that mismatched paint is a result of parts to be replaced in the future-I've 90% decided to do a frame-off resto in 2016 but didn't want to risk my good parts (front fenders, radiator support panels, etc.) with winter on my doorstep.

Your truck looks like a "real" Army truck to me, Gary. When I was in the Army ('68 to '71) that is how these trucks looked. Every panel, fender, running board was a different shade of O.D. I just never saw them any other way.

The last time I restored my truck it just didn't look right for some reason. It finally dawned on me that the problem was that the entire truck was the same color. I had never really seen one like that before.

Your truck looks like a nice, comfortable old truck. It obviously brightened the day of all the people at the Jiffy Lube.

Thanks 52M! I didn't mention that when we arrived there was a Vietnam vet in the waiting room-I shook his hand, thanked him for his service then walked him outside to take a look.. He said he'd seen plenty of M37s "over there" and my truck "looked the part".

Hi Gary,

Great pictures of the truck and pit crew. I participated in the Milwaukee Veterans Day parade, I took my 89 year old father with for the ride and I know that he will be smiling about it for weeks. I would post pictures but the wife and I took a little vacation to TN last week and neither one of us can seem to find the download cord for the camera.

My Buddy Gary, I knew I could count on you to remember this.

I have been unable to post any pictures for a while now. I've tried it from my gallery here, internet hosted tiny pics among others with no luck. I PMd MM & Robi about it, but it still doesn't work. :(

Have you tried linking from a photo bucket account or similar Bert? That is what I do, the gallery on here is no good to me either.....
