Dumb Bunny - we took the linkage apart and found our error. The throttle linkage pivot has a forked support that just by chance the throttle cable lever fit into. This was such a perfect fit, we assumed that's how it came off. Of course, we had to take the linkage apart to paint each piece. So the correct sequence is to attach the throttle mounting plate using the rearward hole with the wiper vac line bracket, and the forward hole using the threaded pivot arm bolt. The throttle linkage slips onto the pivot and then the throttle cable lever slips onto that. Be sure that the bent arm of the throttle cable lever points inward towards the block and that it makes contact with the throttle linkage. The only other surprise was that the carb would spring to an open 3/4 throttle position when the linkage was disconnected - soiled my shorts holding the choke shut right next to the beast when she caught and ran to max revs..... oh boy.

Glad you figured it out. I try to take pictues as I take stuff apart because I know my oldtimers brain will forget by the time I go to put it back together. Digital cameras make it soooo easy.

OOOHHH no!! What a way to loose a camera. I have done the same more than once over the years.
The best was watching a wave knock over the bucket I had set my camera on while at the beach and seeing it tumble down into the water.
