Plans for 2014

Post by sturmtyger380 »

I need to get off my rear for 2014 and to start with taking the bed off and fix the back of the cab where it has rust. Then fix the bed, fenders, make sure the engine is running right, re-wire, and the list goes on and on.

Anybody have plans or goals they would like to share for working on or playing with their M37’s in 2014?

Just ordered a new gauge set since I don't have any working gauges since the 12v conversion. Headlights will hopefully be replaced before 2014, but I do sincerely hope to have all of my body and paint work done by end of 2014, including a pair of upholstered bomber seats and center console. Seats will hopefully similar to what Stacey David did on his Rat Roaster project. If I get lucky I will fabricate the new soft top and hopefully source a new drivetrain, but getting it to look good is priority number 1 since it runs and drives well as is.

I've got a few bugs to work out, namely to replace the lower king pin bearings on my D60 to solve my intermittent death wobble issue, and then to move the propane evaporator from the fire wall to a closer location to the carb to prevent it from freezing up... Then, if I have sufficient funds, I may redesign the driveline one more time, with a new 4spd, aux. overdrive and a single tcase... But time and money will tell.

not a stroker a long rod. I found two 264.5 flattys, one a 1954 gear driven Chrysler crown m4 with a full flow block and the other a 1952 Chrysler industrial 265 with bypass oiling. they are very similer to the stock canadian m37 251 long block except the stroke on the 251 is 4.50 and the 265 is 4.75 however the 251 has a better rod ratio @ 1.75 to1 so I will take the long 8in rods from a 218/236 and get a 1.68 to 1 ratio out of the 265 rather than 1.63 to 1. below is links to where, why and how

I'd like to get my windshields cut and in, a new top and two new batteries come spring then drive it. Worry about body and paint later.

Finalizing the service brake overhaul in the next month, then for Spring getting the front half of the body stripped, prepped and painted for 2014. Possibility of tearing it down to have the frame blasted and primered-depends on cost and how lazy I may or may not be. :) Hope to take it to the 2015 MVPA National in Topeka so I'll also need to address my leaky 230-runs strong but has a seeping freeze plug along with the incessant oil marking.

BTW-great new post, Styrmtyger :)

For me it's a 4BT/nv4500 combo.

As lofty a goal as joining a gym in January and sticking it out past valentines day

I need to finish a few more things on the interior of my M1009 and then spray a nice 3 color camo paint job on it because the wife said it looks ugly being all CARC Green.

Then I need to get into high gear and finish the M37 restoration. It's only been a 4 year project so far.

I'd also like to get the paperwork issues solved for my M152 and then maybe start giving it some love...

I don't think it'll be to much of an issue, the truck was used in a logging show back in the 80's as a crew crummy. However, as typical as it is, its was bought and sold several times since then, and the paperwork has fallen by the wayside as some previous owners never registered it in their name. I've got a bill of sale though, and the data plates are still on it, so it should only be a matter of a title search to get a new copy of the old registration reprinted... I've got an ICBC outlet here in town, so I don't think they'll ask me to travel... They may however want a safety inspection done at some point... Which I'm not looking forward too...

The plan is to have the AF M37 ready for it's first show in March. But as long as it rains and is horribly cold everyday, not much is getting done. The bed has yet to be painted as well as a few other pieces.
