Trailer progress finally!/Paint at last!

Post by HingsingM37 »

I actually took my trailer tub to the blasters today. I may have that M101A1 finished by Aug-Sept... :)

Looking good so far David, I can't wait to see it completed. Are you doing the wood or fiberglass sideboards?

I adjusted the link for you.

Thanks Bert. Everytime I try to post a pic directly I still get that "Quota limit reached" message?

I am using wood sideboards. I bought those nice ones DAP had for sale a year or so back :)

I picked up my tub from the blasters yesterday. It is amazing how many holes ten layers of paint cover up. I can't wait to get started on it. Pic here:

David,

The tub looks solid, time to break out the TIG welder and fill in the holes.

Re: Trailer progress finally!/August

Post by HingsingM37 »

Well troops here it is August and I have made a few repairs. This tub is labor intensive as most of the holes were at the bottom of the uprights in corners. You can't fit a grinder or sander in there so I have been taking down weld with a die grinder and a hand file. I tried my little 1.500" roll loc's but they last 20 seconds. . After I get the weld down I top it off with some glazing. Then sand some more. Slow but sure :)

You could get a Dremel tool in there David-I can't tell you how much that tool has saved me when working on mine, from sanding paint, cutting off old bolts, drilling holes, grinding down welds-it's been a life-saver.

Gary,

Yes I have been using my Dremel (or knock off Craftsman one) as well. It sounds like a dentist drill to the tenth power when you hit that metal  If I could remove the same material with that size tool that a 4.00" grinder does I'd be in good shape. At least I am further on the tub than a year ago. I should have it painted just in time to store for winter :)

For sure-my goal before winter is to tear down, repair, prep and paint my front half of my M; then I'll finally get to work having the brake drums turned, get new shoes, etc.
