Anybody Ever See the Red Circles ???

Hi Guys,

So there I was sittin' in the outhouse, reading TM9-840. Those TM's make great throne reading! And I come across what I've circled in the pic below. Now I'm relatively new to the MV hobby, but I've tried to go to as many meets and Rallys as I could this past year.......and I've looked at thousands of M37 pics online.......and I've never seen what's described below in this TM. I looked real closely at my Air Force M37, as it has it's original paint in these areas, and I don't see any red circles. Maybe the Air Force didn't use the Army TMs.....I'm not sure.

So my question is......has anyone ever seen the red circles, either on a restored M37 or on one with original paint? This TM is dated December 1950, so it's possible this red circle thing didn't happen over the full life of the M37, but it sounds like a good thing to do. So can anyone say they've seen the red circles??

thanks,
bob

My 1951 had the red circles on all the grease points.

When cleaning up all my M37s, M43s and M38s, there was red paint under all the newer paint layers and grease.......

To be honest with you...YES I have!

I work for the firefighting agency in my state responsible for administrating the Federal Excess Property, and DOD program for fire departments...I've seen one or two deuce 1/2s come in from DRMO with this one, and I thought that it was a pretty slick idea! I was going to do it to our WM300 PW's at the dept, but one of the other guys gave me such a hard time about it, that I didn't.

Bob,

I've seen this while stripping back the layers of paint on the M.

I don't remember the date but FWIW there was a later MWO that dropped the requirment for the red circles. I don't recall if it just dropped the requirement for them or if it required that the be painted over. Personally I think they're a good idea since they save time trying to find the lube points and helps prevent overlooking one, and I've been painted them back onto my '53.
