Idler arm bushing replacement

Hi all,
I've been away for some time. The truck is running great...except when the throw-out bearing grenaded yesterday, but that's another story.
I need to replace the bushing in the sterring idler arm, and I'd like to do it in situ. I see that the manual has a special puller (of course). I was thinking of threading something into the zerc hole to grab with the slide hammer. Is that a bad idea? Does anyone have a better idea?
Thanks, and hope your New Year is treating you well...
Dave
