Took a short run yesterday...

After a year of next to no work on my M37, I decided to run it down the hill to add some gas and air up the tires, as they were looking a bit flat--and they were, less than 20 PSI. Was a bit hairy using the handbrake to assist the weak service brakes going down but the run was relatively uneventful except the one time I didn't fully release the handbrake. Smoked right up and came pouring into the cab, but I asked for it so I really can't complain. That was roughly a 10 mile round trip, and one I needed to make since the snow has now arrived-we've gotten a couple of feet here in the Wasatch mountains, making for a white Christmas! Oh yeah, the MUTT heater did it's job too, keeping the cab warm and comfortable.

You know, I like these trucks because I remember them from when I was seventeen and playing "army". To say that any seventeen year old was mature enough to be aware of the seriousness of what he was doing is just nonsense. We had fun with these vehicles, and we thought we were immortal. We were seriously disabused of this idiocy by the Viet Nam War but we still managed to keep some sense of perspective and humor (even if it was a gallows type of humor).
So, running down a hill with less than perfect tire inflation or a hand brake less than fully released is just a reminder of days gone by and friends lost a long time ago.
Sorry for being so maudlin, but we weren't always so old and "responsible"..........
just sayin'

I wonder if there are any vehicles made today that you could blindly hand over to a 17 year old and expect to get it back still running?

Gary,
Glad to hear the M made the trip without a problem, but we need to see a picture of the M out playing in the snow next time.

Gary,
Glad to hear you had a little adventure in the M. Sounds like a blast other than the brake smoke. We got our first snow here in NE Ohio this week. I took the truck out in the back 40. First time I had it in 4WD since I yanked my Ranger out of the ditch a few years back. I still have not wired up my heater switch though...of course it took me two years to wire the wipers

I always thought the "EOD" livery was elegant.
I remember seeing years ago in-service M-37's at the Yuma Proving Grounds in that paint scheme, where they obviously had a LOT of ordnance to dispose of....
