I saw this on e-pay and captured the picture.
Is this a modification that someone did?

Okay, it looks like they took the door spare tire carrier off of a B1 and bolted it to the end of the bed. I would say that it would still be very stressful on the back of the bed side.

Yeah, I can see that ripping the tailgate apart if it's driven any at all.

It looks like they bolted it to a side pocket of the bed with a bracket. Hopefully they beefed it up to carry the load. Just doesn't look right though,

I kinda like it, but I'd want one on each side of the bed so I could carry two spares. I've got a set of wheels and tires to run duals on my truck and that would be a nice way to carry them (or a set of chained up spares in winter). You would need some some extra leaves in your rear springs though to compensate for the extra weight so far behind the axle. It would be a fair amount of work (and engineering) to do it right, but it would probably weigh about the same as the gypsy racks they hung off the tailgate in Viet Nam.
Definitely a unique MWO........

Looks very awkward to me. I recall someone on eBay selling a project truck with the B1 spare mounted up front over the bumper. That was also odd looking.

I brought this back up since I have been looking at that photo for a while. Two big down sides to this is the following, since my Lady had a Blazer with the spare attached that way. First is screw up and not latch it completely and make a turn and see your spare in your side mirror! The other could be over come, but I have carried stuff with my tailgate mid way. Swinging spare again. Funny thing is I basically like the idea, especially since with a weld on hasp you could lock the tire carrier and secure the pioneer tools at the same time.
