I was reading some old posts, and was wondering what would be some advantages and disadvantages of replacing the 4 bladed fan with a 6 bladed one like what's on the Canadian model

Advantage is a lot more air flow to keep your radiator and engine cooler
Disadvantage is it uses a little more horse power.
Worth it in my opinion!

and 6 blade makes more noise. the WC trucks of WW2 used a small pulley and a 6 blade. noisy but NEVER over heat on the trails with 85 degree temps. I have not offroaded an M37 in the summer time. I imagine they are OK as well considering the size of the radiator.

Good morning,
I have been riding my M around for the past 4 summers; beach, low speed and high speed(45MPH) driving with a four blade fan, The temp has never gone above the 180 that the thermostat regulates. And this is without the fan shroud.

Do a search for fans on this forum. Rick Hoffman has done a conversion to six blade. You might also PM him.

The four blade fan has what I call a military pitch. In my M38A1 i can here the fan from the drivers seat at 40 MPH. It gives MV's a disinction. Anyone in the army was trained to identify vehicle distance after dark by that sound. Only American vehicles sound like that. Mine will pull bugs through the radiator and place them in a neat line on the underside of the hood. On a more advanced note, fan blades are rated at CFM. The steeper the pitch the more air they move, and the more horse power they require. Usually, a 6 blade has less pitch because there are more blades, but if the CFM is the same it requires the same horse power as a 4 blade fan. Flex fans were the answer to saving power at higher RPM in the 70's but don't but one. They come apart with use. How many times can you bend a piece of metal back and forth before it cracks? These blades trashed hoods and radiators and anything in the path when they come apart. I spend too much time working on broken stuff as a result of engineering marvals.
