Water pump question?

Did the later model water pumps use a shorter(thinner) spacer on the hub between the pulley and the fan blade? My old style (with the grease cup) water pump took a dump so I ordered a new one. Well got the new water pump and the fan hub isn't as deep on the new style one. So if I use my old fan spacer the fan will only be held by the bolts and won't be seated on the hub center.

Any info or ideas on this?

Steve

You'll need to have the spacer shortend. I had a machine shop do it. There is a post on here about it.

Thanks, I figured that was the deal, but I was hoping I was wrong. As I want to keep all the original parts in case I want to put it back to original someday. I guess I will have to see if I can make a thinner one so I can save the old one.

I'd suggest trying to see if someone has the correct thinner one. Try Bob Stahl in MA, he has loads of take-off parts. Phone only: 508-three-eight-four-76-nine-eight.

Check with John,@ Midwest Military I think he had the original length ones. I found out after I had mine shortened, I think!! CRS comes into play when you get old.

Instead of cutting down the old spacer I ended up making a new spacer with a pilot. Wanted to keep the fan in the original spot in relation to the shroud and radiator.

Nice work! I like the idea of the pilot.

Thanks,

Here's two of Tim's pics. Tim the board quota references the ability to load a photo straight from your computer to the message board. This is because the photo is then stored by the message board. You can still link any photo loaded on another web site or page by using the function with the photo's url.
