Hello,
A friend of mine got bit by the OD bug and recently purchased a m37 with a DOD of 4-18-51. It is very complete, almost rust free, and will soon be getting in the shop. At any rate, we went tthrough and pulled numbers off of it, and was shocked to find the engine number to be T214SR-4027.

Is it common to come accross M37s with WC motors? Was it stock from the factory, or were there a surplus after the war that were used as replacements?
I did not see a depo rebuild tag on the dash. I did find a rebuild toe tag on the generator, carb, and starter, the gen being 10-67.
I mostly play with WW2 and modern military vehicles. This is the first 1950's M-series we are going to venture into! (the rusted out M-43 we broke down for parts does not count )

Yes, very common. I had a 53 that had a 214 in it. Nothing wrong with it either, still runs it down the road, just not a pure stock truck.

My 53 has a 1943 WC engine, rebuilt in France in 1967, the carby is a Zenith Model # 29.

I have seen several M37s with T214 French rebuilt engines installed which were not done by the US Army but by civ. truck sales companys. Many of these engines were sold as surplus in the mid to late 1970s and were bought by US companies like Memphis Equip. and Clark Equipment located in Charleston W Va where I saw a doz. or so of them in their shop basement in 1982. All were painted lime green and sealed in plastic and had the Zenith carbs Bruce mentioned.

Thanks fellas for the info, sorry for the late response. We got it running, purrs like a kitten. Everything is 24 volt except the ignition, the previous owner has it rigged up to run 12 volt.
My friend owns this M-37 and a 55 Power Wagon that is currently getting put back together through a nut and bolt resto. We would like to get the 37 on the road till we complete the PW. I will be postiing in the swap meet section some items he currently needs, and anything else that pops up.
