I have to make a muffler for my 140CC Tecumseh stationary engine, has anyone got any good designs for a muffler I can build to keep it fairly quiet is there an "off the shelf" item for these things?

What type of exhaust outlet is on the engine? IE Pipe thread, rectangular flange, or slip joint? The pipe threaded outlets are easy to find mufflers for at the small engine engine counters.

It is a threaded type, my problem is finding one that silences a bit better than the standard baffle can it came with, I may even series up 2 larger mufflers if needed or using 1" pipe, some plate steel and some 4" pipe make a dual or triple chamber unit. I want the engine to be quiet and spark free as it may be used in bushland for emergency comms station purposes. I'll go check out the dealers too per your advice.....

I once fabricated an adaptor to mate a 5 HP Tecumseh to a moped muffler for my dad's riding mower. What Tecumseh calls a "muffler" could be better called a "spark arrestor." They sure don't silence anything!

Thanks Chuck, I'll go to the local bike wreckers and see what I can pick up for a few bucks. It's for my 11Hp (I think) engine on a Miller Roughneck 2E I am rebuilding for the Dodge, not enough cash to buy a new welder/generator so rebuild a shagged out one I must.... :|
