Looks like it will work. Bill, you bring the snatch blocks, we'll use my truck and try it! I know of a nice deep creek nearby so bring your boots.

Bill, looks correct to me. Make sure that you and Jim take your Gator repellant with to the creek when you test this.

Jim, any deep creek you go to and get stuck in will take more than a M-37 winch to pull you out. I have seen some pictures of your mud pits.

I find it hard to see how it would work pulling on the truck in both directions at the same time. I would think the multi lines on the rear would make the back move slower than the front, not faster. Still it looks like the winch would pull the front forward and the back, backwards. Ideas? Jim, you would not be happy if it pulled your pintle hook off.

Ok Bill, I'll get it stuck somehow in the sand! It would be nice to know if it will work. If you have the snatch blocks you could try it at home?

At first I didn't think it would work but the more I thought about it I think the mechanical advantage on the rear would inch it back. Sure would love to see someone try it! I would go with a simulation. Wouldn't want to use a real truck as a guinea pig

I take that back. It'll work,but....your truck would be a few inches longer.

Chunk, twice you've said it wont work, but you haven't posted as to why you believe it wont work. How about telling us why instead of it just wont.

Personnally I think if it was printed in the manual or a PS mag then the army tested it and knows it does work. So yeah I think it will work.

OK So I made this little model/setup thing with string going to where it does in the picture. I used a bolt for the winch and cranked away. The only thing I got was the block (M37) lifting up off the ground. Twist harder and the anchors moved. Seem the bolt (winch) just pulled on the back and front of the block (M37) I dont think I want to try it on my truck at this time.[img][img]http://inlinethumb01.webshots.com/43456/2829230360033746103S600x600Q85.jpg[/img][/img]

It would work. The double block in the rear along with the single on the truck allows the line to be pulled in. Because of the LARGE amount of line in the rear it is that excess line the winch is taking up while moving the truck rearward (since it is ultimately anchored to it). As the truck moves rearward the rear loops becomes 1/2 shorter and the distance from the winch to the front block becomes twice as long....because the truck is now further reaward. Basically, the winch is taking up a lot of slack for a little movement. And now...after that..I need to hit the head for a "little movement"

double block tackle in the rear is where the extra cable comes into play to let the truck move backwards...still looks like something from a three stoogees movie

wouldn't it just be easier to run the cable under the truck and just pull it backwards.

P.S. Yes I understand if your in gater infested mud to your eye balls its not really possible to crawl underneath, ...but... who has an extra 1000 ft of cable on their winch either.
