Front Marker Lights

Post by T. Highway »

Are there amber 24V bulbs available for the front marker lights or am I better off changing the lenses to amber?
What are you guys running?

Originals are clear.....there are a lot of front marker lights out there that have the amber lenses in them though. Should be easy to find a set.

Did you just change to the goat lenses or the whole housing? If you changed the housing is there a provision for turn signals?
My plan is to incorporate turn signals when I do the restoration.

I had to obtain entire housings on both ends because my truck was a basket case with no housings when I bought it. The goat housings have 3 single-phase bulbs so you will be able to run your service drive lights, to include turn signals but at the expense of the b/o marker and brake lights.
Lots of folks go this way in order to be seen at night.

It's even easier to simply get an amber 24volt, 21 watt globe from a modern vehicle setup (most suppliers have them, I use 12 volt in my system though) and grind 1 bayonet pin off as they are offset, slip this in behind your clear lens and you have an amber light with the origonal "clear" look for your indicators.
I run them like this on my truck (front and rear) to keep the Australian transport requirements for lighting satisfied with my vehicle's setup. I run 4 marker sets on the rear, 2 red lens and 2 clear lens units, unusual maybe but it looks the part and I have the usual 2 on the front.

Now that's the answer I was looking for. I wanted to keep the clear stock lens. Thanks MM
Now I'm on a mission to find two 24V Amber bulbs.

I forgot to add, you can also simply use amber lens paint on clear bulbs, the reason I have mine setup with the amber bulb for the front indicator light is a 5 watt clear bulb in the second mount means I have my park light in there too and it is white per our regulations for the front of a vehicle.

I tried the paint on (1) the bulb and (2) the lens, separately, that is. Wasn't happy with either. I finally decided to leave it white. In Taxachusetts, the only non-original part required is a light over the real license plate - well, and the plate itself.
