1100x16 tires

I'm trying to anticipate the time when my State inspection guy says my tires are too dry-rotted to pass inspection. Was thinking of getting 1100x16 (I'm now running 900x16.), and thought of something. Does the boarding ladder still work well with the additional height, or is it too wobbly & vertical? Right now, all is perfect with the 900's, and it's only an added inch at the tailgate.
