Source for door latch springs ? ?

Post by Tom @ Snake River »

Need to find a source for the coiled door latch springs that were common to all the military trucks for the past 50 years.
There are left and right sides.
I keep robbing old doors, but running out of parts trucks.

The last cashe was in the hands of Bill Lammers, I sure he kept a few for himself, but not many.
Might be a good thing to look into reproducing?
You done with the fall harvest yet?

The fall harvest has gotten ugly. It was a late spring, now we are paying the price.
We have 65 acres of potatoes still out and it got down to 18 degrees last night.
We still have 400 acres of malt barley out and it is trying to snow. It will lose it malting qualities and may sprout. I hate to send you guys bad tasteing beer.
The M-800 series trucks are our saving grace. They slug through the mud and snow just fine.

Finally a cure !

I tore the mechanism out of a part M-35 and low and behold, it had been fixed in someone's shop. I am not sure on an M-37, but I bet that they are the same.
Open up the pinch and remove the bad spring. Now flatten the pinch pieces back down into the plate.
Cut a 1/4" rod 3.5" long and weld it to the latch mechanism. Find a compression spring that will slip over the 1/4" rod approx 2.5" long.
Slide a 5/16" nut on the end of the rod and weld it to the plate for the spring to work against.
A real easy shop fix.
