I am going out to hook up my sparkplug wires and need to know what cylinder fires first? And maybe just how to do this in general. (I am used to there being #’s on the regulator)

I suspect you mean #'s on the distributor, anyway the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. The #1 terminal on the distributor cover will be the one that is in the approximate 7 o/clock position. Proceed from there in a clockwise direction in accordance with firing order.

Hello Charles and all, and I notice your reference to the #1 wire position of the distributor as being at 7 o:clock. But is this with me standing on the side of the engine where the distributor is between me and the engine block...?

Ok she isn’t starting so I am thinking my wires may be off on it is my timing. Witch one is 7 o’clock on the distributor? And how do I make my timing close enough to start?

#1 is at the position of the 7 on a clock face when looking straight at the distributor. Align the DC mark on the crank pulley with the pointer, remove the distributor cover, the rotor will either be pointing at #1 or #6 terminal on the cap. Makes no difference which one it's pointing at, loosen the 1/4" bolt that holds the distributor in the block, turn the distributor housing so that the cam is just beginning to open the points, retighten the bolt, this is plenty close to start if no other problems exist. Once you get it running, set the timing to 4* before TDC using a timing light.

Spark Plug Wires

Bubba,
Are these the military thread on wires? If they are not, are you using a regular universal wire kit. If you are, the plug wire ends that go in to the cap have to have a pin on the end of the wire. Look in to the cap from the top the conductor plate is on the bottom of each wire hole.
