Old MOPAR Replacement Engines and Cylinder Block Assembly...

Post by nivek »

..catalog. Dates from late 50's, early 60's.

12 pages in four colors and tons of text about engine specs and replacement options from Mopar.

Original document scanned into .pdf format (2.5 megs) or Word .doc (5.5 megs).

Rapidshare is a very quick download site that allows me to pass large files easily. Follow instructions to the FREE download.

Mechanics course is from an old .mil course. Stark and as basic as they come. Dates back to same era as the Mopar catalog. Good for those wanting the *roots* of working on an older sled like the M-37 trucks.

Enjoy! Any questions or problems with downloads, let me know.

Kevin No problem with the download. I haven't checked out the mehcnics course but the parts catalog for engines was great to look at. I think I saw where someone penciled in 300 or so for an engine. Thanks for taking the time to make this stuff available.

As I find appropriate and useful materials, will be pleased to pass them along.

This engine catalog was in the "So Cool it be Frosty" category :)

Figured that being able to know "from Factory" what fit what, where, why might help keep that old flattie from being scrapped.

My 230 is an Industrial of some still unknown vintage, and in turn trying to get things all buttoned up right for a 12vt "It'll do fine to make Old Blue go" engine took some investigation...

Also have quite a few advertisements for Dodge a friend had given him from "Country Gentlemen" magazine, circa late 30's and pre-War 40's. Will be taking time to scan those into one larger file *soon*.

Love the old stuff!! I just found a book called "American Road" It's about the 1919 transcontinental trek made by the army. I know the MVPA is going to recreate it next year what a trip!! There were old Dodges on that run also.

I am sure it will be a great experience.
Factoid: Ike was on the 1919 trip and then when he became president he pushed the intersate hiway system.

Anybody encountered a factory (IE Chrysler) replacment engine in an M37? I have a miitary 230 but it has lots of Chryser style silver paint on it like a factory replacement and the T245 serial is sloppy hand stamped like maybe the serial from the engine it replaced was stamped by the military mechanic who installed it?

From what I have seen, the "T-245" was hand stamped on all military engines.

The silver paint was the factory stock engine color. They didn't get painted OD (or any other color) until they got their first unit-level repair.

Lifer~ Ok, here is what I am talking about. The first pic is definitly what I call "factory" punched number. Nice, sharp & square. The second is what I question as a "in the field" punched number maybe on a replacement engine? What do you think?
The third photo is a rebuild tag on the second engine.

Maybe it's just my ancient eyeballs (just had laser surgery on the left one), but I don't see any numbers at all in pic #1. The number in pic #2 looks like the one on my engines, both the bad one and its replacement. Maybe someone else has more info on the subject???
