I sat outside all day today as the cashier for my wife's yard sale. I had advertised "lots of guy stuff" in the paper, so we had a larger than usual turnout of men. Several of these gents saw my lovely truck and referred to it as "an Army 3-quarter ton," which is good. One referred to it as an "M37." Only one called it a "jeep," but he was corrected by the guy who properly identified it by its real name.

Yup! Keeping the M37, but getting rid of a lot of extra clutter (mostly hers) that we don't want to take with us on the move.

Most folks call it a "three quarter". I've yet to hear it referred to as an M-37.
A surprising number call my Jeep an M151, and nobody refers to it as a MUTT except on the Internet.

I wasn't talking about your 3/4. My reply was directed at the title of topic and the one person that call your truck a "jeep". The Mutt, Military utility tactical truck, or M151 is probably the biggest wrongly labeled " jeep" when its really a Ford. Please dont remind me of the thousands of GPW , General purpose willys ,ford jeeps out there.

Same here! We AF weenies called 'em "one fifty-ones" every place I drove 'em. We did refer to the M35 and M37 by their particular designations, although most AF troops who did not drive 'em daily generally referred to the M35 as a "six-by."

GP = Gubment 80" wheelbase reconnaissance car (the prototype ford "jeeps" were called GP's)

W = Willys type

Yep, me too. I don't even bother correcting people anymore. No.1 they don't listen, and 2. they don't care, so why should I try to teach the uneducatable when it comes to these trucks? Remember when every copier was called a Xerox machine? Its the same thing with anything OD .

From some quick research you brought up a good point. Heres what I found on G503.com
G= gubment
P= 80 inch wheel base
W= willys design based off the ford prototype!

Now for the hard question what does GPA stand for?
It had a 84 inch wheel base! That dont jive with what P or GP and A is amphibious?
