Ckutch job needed on M37
Hey guys I am in need of a clutch job. I am in the Minneapolis area. I there anyone that does work on the side that would be willing to tackle this.If I was younger I would try but I just can't do this stuff anymore by myself..

Too far for me or I'd gladly do it, sorry. You might DM T. Highway over in WI-he might be able to or know someone who can. You might see if a local high school shop class might do it for you too.

Thanks for the thoughts. Greatly appreciated.. Sad thing is I have all the tools in the world to do the job. If I just had someone in the area to help me that has done it before it would be great.. That being said I do know a place I can bring it but they get over a grand to do the job. That may be the going price these days. I may just have to suck it up and pay the price..

It's an odd procedure on these trucks. You have to pull the transmission. But the bellhousing stays in place.
Remove floor
Remove intermediate drive shaft
Remove transfer case levers
If equipped, remove winch drive shaft
Remove transmission
Remove lower bellhousing cover
Remove pressure plate and disc
Remove flywheel
(Retorquing flywheel requires torque adapter and some math.)

I can get all the parts for the job except for the alignment tool. Does anyone know what vehical one would work for the M37?

I have a set of 50 year wood alignment tools. The green one fits. LOL
Because the bellhousing is on the truck, you could just stab the transmission back in and then tighten the clutch cover bolts.

Been a long time since I last did this, but if I remember correctly I just used a spare pilot shaft as a clutch alignment tool and to drive out the old pilot bearing (using grease to transfer pressure).
I'll probably be doing this myself this winter. I'm 83; it hadn't occurred to me that age might be a factor in pulling the transmission - am I missing something?
Also, from memory I lift the top off the cab, remove the transmission hump, suspend the transmissiion from a chain hoist (safetied by a floor jack), disconnect the transfer lever pushrods and the winch jackshaft, remove the bell housing cover plate, slide the transmission aft to clear the pressure plate, remove the pressure plate and control arm, drop the clutch, insert and align a new clutch using a spare pilot shaft, and reassemble. Nothing requires much strength. I don't recall needing to remove the flywheel. Again, what am I missing? Why remove the flywheel?

Steve might need to have the flywheel resurfaced.

True, he might. I used to run my hand across it while in place. If it felt smooth, and it usually did, I ignored it.

One thing that I can’t figure out is that the clutch pedal is very hard to push in. I seriously doubt that a woman could get it. Something has to be going on inside to make it so hard. I have made that clutch pedal adjustment under the truck a few times now just so I can get it to go into gear without grinding gears. I seams to work for a little while and then it gives me grief. But holy smokes I have to press that pedal so hard and to the floor. This I why I just thought it is time for a new clutch.

I'm just seeing this now.
I would of gladly done this for you but my wife and I are currently building in TN. My mechanics tools have all been moved there already, my fab shop equipment, and M series rolling stock are next. I don't have any contacts that live in your area to recommend either.
