Crankshaft pulley hub and pulley instalation question

Post by jahrafa »

Hello,

I am slowly restoring my '58 M37 and found that my timing chain cover did not have the timing pointer and the Crankshaft pulley was from a different model vehicle and did not have timing marks either. I installed the proper timing chain cover and I am about to install the pulley hub with a proper pulley. I would like to know the correct way to install the pulley into the pulley hub as it does not seem to fit just one way or have a mark so that the timing marks align with the pointer in the cover. Maybe is a lot simpler than I think but I just need someones wisdom. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

There's a small pipe plug in the head above #6 piston. Remove the plug, insert a dial indicator with an extension if necessary and find TDC of #6 while #1 is on the compression stroke. Then mark your pulley or check the existing marks to ensure they are OK.

Thank you Andy. I will do that.

I also found that the belt pulley goes in the pulley hub only one way. One of the bolts is at a different position and it only fits one way.

Thank you!
