Post by CRTodd »

Do any of you know of a good source to buy a 24-volt headlight for the 1954 M37?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Cliff and welcome!
You should try Midwest Military, or Vintage Power Wagons. Both are great supporters of the M37 community!

If you want to try a modern version with removable bulbs, Octane Lighting has a number of options. I converted my OEM headlights to 7” H4 bulbs. I had to buy the female pigtails from Amazon to install them. It was a $100 job all in for both. The upside is brighter lights and you can find replacement bulbs at any auto parts shop. Jerry

I am going to replace my old 24v headlights with a newer conversion. Many of the 24v headlights still around are old and I find they don't last too long. I will use this kit but just haven't got that far along on my truck yet.

I bought my kit and bulbs right before the pandemic hit in 2019 and still the guy had to wait for the kits to be manufactured as he said they are really popular. So, you might want to check on availability. Alan

Thank you all for leaving a reply. Each one was very helpful.

I am a new owner of a 1954 M37 and looking forward to visiting the g741.org M37 discussion forum often for advice and suggestions from all of you.

Have a great weekend.

I went with some LED bulbs which were direct replacements for the stock bulbs. Just needed to add the appropriate connector to the end of the truck's wiring. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075XY82J6/

They are not cheap, but they have a great reputation for longevity. Available in black or chrome trim. I thought black went better with an M37.

Since I got these, I stumbled across some 24V LED bulbs that looked more like the traditional bulbs. They were less expensive. Unfortunately, I've lost the link.

Nice looking and bet the LEDs would really light up a night drive. Thanks for sharing! I will look into them.

Once I got them aimed somewhere close to where they should be, they made a huge difference for me when driving at night. I can no longer overrun my headlights.

BE prepared for sticker shock when you see the price at that link (and that's EACH, not for a pair).
